My Review:

I can’t even say WOW loud enough to cover the emotional rollercoaster I have been on. Highs like you wouldn’t believe, and lows that make you cry out, “What?” There are so many aspects to this book.

First and foremost, I really appreciated that Bruce Howard was a Gentleman. In every sense of the word. His mind is razor sharp and he is quick witted and sees everything. You were also treated to perfectly executed knowledge about the other characters, how they behaved, how they felt and how they matured in the story. By the time the first part ended, you knew where you stood with all of the characters.

Each chapter covers a period of time in connection with a particular case. Each chapter was its own complete short story which progressed you through the book.It is an unusual way to do chapters, but it was an amazing way to do the chapters. It taught you about Bruce as a man and a Private detective. I was sailing right along until I ended the first part.

At that point the book takes on a totally different feel, it takes you where you had no clue you were going and the little pieces of the puzzle keep cropping up and connecting one at a time. When you think you have a clear picture of the finished product. All the while you are invested in the story, you care about Bruce and all of his cohorts.

You reach yet another part and the players are familiar, yet not. It is tricky writing that keeps you so curious that you just have to stay with it. Once again as the reader becomes comfortable with the new aspects of the story it can change on a dime. These are not flighty changes, these changes make perfect sense and you know that this is seriously unexpected.

This is my first book by Emmanuel Obi, but you know that this could not be his first work. He is too seasoned, to comfortable in the writer’s skin. He covers Mystery too well and brings thriller aspects into chilling clarity. He manages all this with the gore and over the top images, he makes you feel like you are standing in the room with the characters and witness everything yourself. Personally, I look forward to reading more of his work. I have watched some of his short films and they show his skill in storytelling as well. His is a name we will all know soon, and we will know it in different entertainment arenas.

My Recommendation:

I am impressed with this book. I really can’t recommend it strong enough to anyone that loves intricate mysteries and clever stories. You might even thank me for this recommendation. The life that Bruce leads is addictive, he makes you want to know what is next. I am impatient for the next book in the series.
