El Dorado The Lost City Book 1 by Ben Hammott This book was such an adventure. The first section deals with the past and sets the stage for the adventure that is about to commence. It is totally engrossing and made me have a vested interest in the explorer, Colonel Percy Fawcett, his son, Jack and their companion Raleigh. These men ventured into the Brazilian rainforest on a quest to find a rumored city of gold and immense wealth and power. They never came home and after eighty years a clue washes up on the shore in England starting a new quest.
There are so many riveting moments in this first book. So many exciting creatures that prey on men, people that prey on men and secrets that drive men into dangerous situations. Each chapter unfolds with both the past and present day working together to solve the mystery of these explorers and their fate.
Beautifully written so that you can almost picture the canopy of trees, the swarms of mosquitoes and shin high tarantulas enforced that I was not like Kate, Sam, Sarah, Matt, Morgan, Chet, Flynn, and Tim. I was safe in my own home with no threat to my skin.
The trek through the jungle was just some of the dangers. There were people that were not quite who they seemed to be that were placing the group in danger just with his presence. Crime and ruthlessness rears its ugly head in unexpected places and all the while you are truly getting to know this group of adventurers and their predecessors.
The best part, Book two is right here and ready to be read. Onward to Book 2. Book two continues with the entry into the lost city, The city that no one believes existed and this band of adventurers are determined to locate. Once they find the city they are about to encounter some of the most bizarre creatures, dangers, and problems they could ever imagine.
The scenes are vibrantly described so that you feel like you are trekking through the jungle with them. The adventure up to the point of book two is amazing, once we enter book two, it skyrockets into one epic mega adventure.
I am not going to give too much away, but these two books really are one epic adventure and totally worth your time to read. Almost 900 pages combined with nonstop harrowing adventures. It makes you glad you are living this adventure vicariously through Ben Hammott
I am posting this review during Mystery Thriller Week. The annual event to celebrate mystery and thriller authors, bloggers, and fans.
It is brilliantly told. I recommend this to anyone that loves a good adventure, tricky tribesmen, and secrets galore.
