New Release Book Review: Sunset Sail by Shannyn Leah

Sunset Sail (The Caliendo Resort, #3)Sunset Sail by Shannyn Leah
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sunset Sail is the third book in the Caliendo Resort series. The Caliendo resort has been working on a merger with the Cohen Cruise line and there is a three week cruise to finalize things.

Many of the sisters are on board and so are the Cohen family. Grayson the son the his father the, “Silver Fox” Brock Cohen. The Caliendo’s are a great family with siblings that protect each other and challenge each other and mostly love one another. If you haven’t started the series, you can pick it up here and then get caught up later. But you should get to know them.

Emma Caliendo is known to be set in her ways, serious and very clear about who she wants to stay clear of. Especially when he is a womanizer, has been from way back and she knew it. She remembered him and his behavior from school. She also knew that he was a tease. He keeps teasing her about them making magic together but she is very leery of the reputation that Grayson has. He finds himself more than just wanting a one night stand with her and that confuses him. When Emma finds out more about the real Grayson Cohen, she finds herself more tempted than she ever imagined. That she had already felt a pull to his handsome face and those green eyes make her even more unsteady. You will love the heat, passion and the combustion of these two people.

I love the humor that Shannyn Leah meshes into her really sizzling stories. She makes the characters more alive and she makes me want to really get to know them and hang out with them. I liked Grayson. He was broken inside, he had reason to be broken inside. He had a reason to not trust and not offer or expect forever. Emma was a girl that did not want to be hurt. She had seen what happened when people loved casually and she did not want that for herself. I love that Shannyn lets you see inside these people and love them hurts, fears and all.

I have enjoyed all the books and wonderful stories in both series. They have been showing up since the beginning and teasing us to know more about them. I was glad to see Emma get her story told. What a great book it is. This is another winning book. Deserving the 5 stars that I am capped at giving, I could have happily gone much higher.

Sunset Sail by Shannyn leah releases on June 28, 2016 and is available in paperback and in Kindle Edition at Amazon

New Release Book Review: A Promise in Defiance by Heather Blanton

A Promise in Defiance (Romance in the Rockies #3)A Promise in Defiance by Heather Blanton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Promise in Defiance is the third of the Romance in the Rockies Series. Based in the town of Defiance, Colorado. I loved it. It is so sad in places that I just wanted to cry. Other places in the book made me evaluate my own relationship with God. I wasn’t preached to, I was touched.

The sisters, Naomi, Rebecca, and Hannah, from the first two books are once again featured. What a pleasure to know their stories have evolved and see what their lives are like after finishing their books.

The stories of the people in Defiance are gritty, harsh, and uplifting. Heather Blanton makes the people of Defiance real. They are flawed, cheats, liars, and some are forgiven.

I was so glad to see where Charles and Naomi McIntyre are after reading about them in A Lady in Defiance.

I loved seeing Emilio again. He was such a wonderful character and that remains in this book. A kind loving man that just wants to have a family to love. A family of his own.

Seeing Rebecca and her newspaper still up and going was so nice. It was like coming home to old friends. There are new characters as well. Rich well formed characters with hardships and joys of their own.

Logan Tillane was a preacher that was called to Defiance and he had his work cut out for him. He had not wanted to go, he liked the quiet easy going congregation that he was currently leading. But he knew that God was calling him to go West. He is a reformed bad guy. Logan has a past that he has tried to put behind him but also a past he chooses to learn from. A past he doesn’t want to come face to face with, but he does. It is so hard to read the pain and hardships that have occurred in so many of the characters lives. They are each so well developed, with their histories making them who they are.

Just a lovely lovely book. I can’t recommend it enough. I was so happy to receive this book as an ARC by Heather Blanton in exchange for my honest review. Heather Blanton has brought this town of Defiance to life with her series and the love of the western history is obvious in her writing. This book was riveting and it earned all 5 stars.

On June 22,2016 A Promise in Defiance will be released and will be available in paperback, Kindle Edition, and through KindleUnlimited on the Amazon website.

New Release Book Review: Despised & Desired by Bree Wolf

Despised & Desired: The Marquess' Passionate Wife (Love's Second Chance, #3)Despised & Desired: The Marquess’ Passionate Wife by Bree Wolf
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Despised and Desired: The Marquess’ Passionate Wife is another wonderful heartfelt book by Bree Wolf. This is the third of the Love’s Second Chance Series and I have loved each of them.

They have had beautifully written characters that pulled at my heart in a special way. This writer brings the characters alive in the most beautiful way. Her characters are not flawless beauties of the first water. The characters in this story are beautiful in their deepest reaches inside.

Elsbeth Munford may very well have been a beauty except there was a terrible accident that scarred her and took away the man she was set to marry. She was aware that the accident had taken away the veil of beauty that most men were looking for in a bride. She accepted her fate without anger and remorse. She looked for joy in her life and she often found it even when others expected her to have only pain and regrets.

When Frederick a guilt ridden, wounded soldier returns home from the war. His life is turned upside down by the recent death of his father and then the unexpected title being dropped onto his head. He accepts his fate and tries to face it with courage. He as a second son was not expected to inherit, so he was not quite prepared and schooled for the title as his brother was. His mother complicates the matter by stating his new goal is to marry and produce an heir. He has no emotion about this at all, it is just another duty he must see to.

Frederick is so cut off from his own emotions that he will not allow anyone into his heart. He can not because he questions his own self worth. He is a man broken inside. When Elsbeth ( Ellie) and Frederick meet again, they have much work to do if they are going to have a life together.

Once again, I loved this book. I love the little light of hope that Ellie offers Rick. I love the women that have supporting roles in this story. They all have a wonderful gift to share with each other. It was a lovely read. Each time she releases a book it ends up as a favorite. Her characters are so free spirited and unusual.

The book releases June 22, 2016 and it is a historical romance that if you love regency romances, you will want to have on your bookshelf.

Bree Wolf brings two people together like no one else. She has released many historical romances and they are always a fun and unique read. Bree has been a published author for several years and the books keep getting better and better. Get to know more about her at her Amazon Author’s Page

Despised and Desired is available in both paperback and as a Kindle Edition through Amazon

Book Review: The Escape by Mary Balogh

The Escape (The Survivors' Club #3)The Escape by Mary Balogh
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book, The Escape, is book #3 in the Survivors’ Club series.

Sir Benedict Harper has tried to get on with his life after his horrific physical damage acquired on the battlefield during the Peninsular wars. He walks with crutches and had done his recovering with the other members of the Survivors’ club at George Crabbe, Duke of Stanbrook’s home. He also might suffer from depression. He certainly seems to have many of the symptoms and his friends invite him to their homes. He chooses instead to go to his sisters. His own home has been taken over by his brother’s family and they are not exactly restful.

Samantha McKay had attended to her husband for years after he too had been wounded during the wars. After her husband passed away, her sister-in-law has stayed to make sure that she behaved as a respectable widow. She is being smothered by the darkness and the widows weeds and the depressive nature of her sister-in-law. She had become a widow only four months before she accidentally met Ben.

Neither liked the other at first because of the suddenness of the dangerous meeting. They remained annoyed with each other until they suddenly realized that they were attracted. I have to admit, it was quite the meeting.

Their home lives were in turmoil and neither one were secure with their homes. As things get even more unpleasant she remembers that she was left a cottage. It was perfect timing to remember this as her future was looking even bleaker.

When she decides to go to her inherited cottage in Wales, Ben accompanies her there on the week long trip in order to keep her safe. It is a very interesting trip. They find themselves tempted by one another.

This is another magnificent story about wounded returning soldiers that have no hope of finding love and happiness. Mary Balogh brings the survivors lives out in the open and let them find a spot in the readers heart.

Mary Balogh shares their struggles during recovery and the hopelessness that sometimes surrounds him. Mary’s characters are always well formed and full of life. They have personalities that make you feel like they are friends by the end of the book.

This is a book worth reading. It is one of my favorites in the series. This is a historical romance and it has some sweet scenes. I did not find it explicit at all. Mary Balogh writes with such beauty that it is a comfortable read.

The Escape is available in paperback, Kindle Edition and on AudioBook at Amazon

Book Review: Proposals and Poison by Rachelle J. Christensen

Proposals and PoisonProposals and Poison by Rachelle J. Christensen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Proposals and Poison is book 3 in the Wedding Planner Mysteries. This is another fun episode of Adri Pyper’s life as a wedding planner. Adri the woman that believes in Happy ever afters and who also just happens to be sort of dating a divorce lawyer. Luke the divorce lawyer, Tony, the policeman, and Lorea, her assistant are all involved in this book.

The story has a murder of a totally unexpected person. Everyone and their brother have a theory about who killed the young woman. The gossips are going wild with rumors of who is inheriting a fortune from the untimely death of Adri’s friend. Adri as usual, is asked by Tony and Luke to stay out of this investigation as she keeps finding herself involved with murderers, criminals and near brushes with death.

Of course Adri can’t help but finding herself in the middle of the danger. This time there are some totally unexpected dangers for others. In this book, there is an over abundance of suspects, and that list keeps growing. Who would imagine so many devious and secretive things were going on in one person’s life. It sure keeps you guessing.

All the while, is love brewing? I have been following Luke and Adri for three books and I certainly am pulling for them to find a special place for each other in their hearts.

There are some great and crazy wedding ideas complete with kids and dogs. Rachelle always adds craft ideas and recipes in her book, which makes it even more fun to read. Proposals and Poison is really a fun book to read. As always Rachelle J. Christensen makes reading about a crime a fun event. Wonderful cast of characters. I hope there are more in store for these guys. I would love to read more about them all.

Proposals and Poison in addition to the other books in the series, Veils and Vengeance, and Diamond Rings Are Deadly Things, are all available in Paperback, Kindle and KindleUnlimited through Amazon
