Authors Talk About it awards Who’s That in the Cat Pajamas? an Honorable Mention!

I am one proud writer. I had my book Who’s That in the Cat Pajamas? entered into the Authors Talk About it, 2017 Book Award Contest in the children’s genre and this book was awarded this amazing Honorable Mention.

ATAI Honorable Mention

I am so honored to have been awarded this award.  This is the first time they have done an Honorable Mention and I am so touched to be one of the first. It means the world to me.

Cover_new

One of the perks of the contest is a professional critique which provided a 5-star review.  This has been the most rewarding response to book 1 of the Dolcey Series.

“The colorful imagery within Who’s That in the Cat Pajamas?, illustrated by Ellie Barrett, add an additional element of fun and fantasy to Sojourner McConnell’s story. These occasional images help bridge a gap between young students who are ready to read more difficult books and embrace more complex concepts with readers who aren’t quite ready to give up the picture book feel. Who’s That in the Pajamas? is a very well-written story and has a fun story line all while sharing a message of hope and a lesson on how to cope with big life changes that are out of one’s control. Sojourner McConnell’s Who’s That in the Cat Pajamas?, the first in her The Dolcey Series, would make for a wonderful tool for parents who are looking for something to help their children deal with a big move away from family and friends. It’s simply a must read!”

ATAI 5 Stars 900

Just as exciting and appreciated is the second place award from the Virtual Fantasy Con Awards for Who’s That in the Cat Pajamas? This one felt special because it was voted on by readers and fans of Docley. I never expected to come in second place.  It was amazing.

2nd place children's Fantasy award

My Review:

The seven-year-old and I read Timothy and His Missing Tooth, together. She loved that it was about a missing tooth as she keeps losing them herself.

The illustrations were really well done and they suited each scene perfectly.

When we read the hardback copy, she loved the large illustrations. The large print was nice for her second-grade reading level.

We are looking forward to seeing what Mandy Leigh has in store for us next. The perfect mystery to keep a child engaged.

My Review:

This book is a clever book which makes you think while snickering at the pun-like names. I love a good pun, so I was in hog heaven. I liked how he told facts with a dash of humor and cleverness. I am going to check out more of his books to see if the same humor is as prevalent in them.

From the silly names he gives the famous people to the imagery he uses to convey those names, he had me laughing all through the book. Poe, Einstein, MLK were all treated with history and humor. I loved it. Sharing this book with my grandchildren.

Children can learn facts, and giggle too. Some of my favorite historically famous people were included. Excellent book for children of all ages.

This humorous book can be found on Amazon in Hardback, paperback, and in Kindle Edition.

My Review:

If you are looking for a wonderfully whimsical and fun book for your child, I suggest Little Pearl’s Reflection The Light in the Window.

Little Pearl has the most adorable way of telling her story. With narrative and personal moments interspersed into the story. The writing is lively and the characters are an unusual mix of silliness and teasing. When Little Pearl’s birthday comes around, she has a mystery to solve and that is when the cast of characters enter the story.

Sarah Ann Kinnear has the writing style of an artist. Her words draw pictures that invite the reader to visually see the story unfold. It is a lovely book to read with fun concepts.

Book Review: Children’s Book of Experiments for Young Scientists by Jaroslaw Wasilewski

  • Children’s Book of Experiments for Young Scientists by Jaroslaw Wasilewski is is a children’s book that is filled with science experiments. Easy expreriments that children (with adult supervision) can perform. The children will be able to achieve amazing things with simple household products.

When I opened this book and called them in to check it out, they wanted to start doing the experiments right away. We had some that we could do simply. with available items.

The first experiment was ever so simple and took only two items. The experiment is called “Ball in a Trap” That was so fun and they liked the ease in which we could make the ball levitate. Again it created so much excitement.

The youngest child is six and she was all into the science of it. She honestly asked more questions than I had answers for. This is a treasure trove of fun for kids.

When I was provided with this book asked to review a children’s book, I did not know we were going to have so much fun. The Publishers provided the copy in exchange for an honest review. The book provided the honest fun and the interest.

The illustrations are bright and colorful and the font is a fun catchy print that engages children. This book is perfectly designed to entice children. It works too.

We still have numerous experiments to do before we can say that we attempted them all. There are thirty included in the book. Sarah wants to do them all.

My granddaughter, Sarah wants to do the one called Rainbow straw next. I may have a little scientist on my hands. This will be in use every day this summer. The older kids are already picking up the ingredients for the rocket ship.
