#MTW Mystery Thriller Week is Growing! Join Us Now :)

October 23, 2016, Benjamin Thomas asked what I thought  about emulating  #ComedybookWeek  with an event for Mystery and Thriller books. I was excited about the idea. We began to brainstorm and the picture of this huge event started coming together. A multi-platform blow-out event with authors, bloggers, and other media people working together to support this genre. Benjamin procured the site and we were off.

In just one day, we had several authors on board and a writing specialist willing to not just provide copies of her books, but provide a hands-on workshop for writers through the hour hosting project on Facebook. Rayne Hall has experience and is willing to share her knowledge live on Facebook.

Once we saw that there was genuine interest Benjamin recruited Sherrie Marshall onto the team. Sherrie was a great addition and has spearheaded some creative contest ideas for the week. She is working on the newest contest opportunity and is excited to be able to announce it very soon.

During planning meetings with those interested, we have come up with several contest themes and Andrew Christie and Jennifer Alderson are working together on those.

J. Schlenker has created a badge for the inaugural participants for posting on their blog and  websites.  It looks amazing on an email too.

There are audiobooks being provided by participating  authors and narrators like Jake Urry, the new voice in Thrillers and Mysteries.

Interviews are being scheduled and this could be your time to interview on of the almost 75 authors and specialists signed up thus far. Truly there is something for everyone. Feel free to ask questions. There is so much going on, it would take a massive blog post to cover it all.

    My Review:

The Collector by Nora Roberts is a book that took me to one of my favorite subjects, missing antiques. Antiques that have a notorious history and a list of interested parties. The antiques in this story are my most favorite antiques to read about. Trust me I want to talk more about them, but I am one of those reviewers that hate a spoiler. I will just tell you it is yummy, delicious and beautiful antiques. After you read the book, email me and we can discuss!

The police are curious about the nosy neighbor that saw a murder through binoculars. When she sees a woman die from her loaned apartment, she is drawn into a serious circle of the victim’s friends and family.

Lila Emerson is a nomadic house-sitter. She is a professional and has quite a following. She doesn’t intrude in people’s lives, cabinets or personal spaces. As the deaths keep growing, the mysterious circumstances place fear into Lila. She becomes involved in the search for facts and clues when Ashton Archer becomes involved. He and Lila have quite the chemistry. Ash is an artist and he wants to paint her. She is a writer and a house-sitter.

The playfulness of Lila is so enjoyable in this suspenseful book. I, like Ash think her brain is so clever and fun. I think I relate to her buckshot analogy.

The plot is intricate and detailed. It is also so beautifully artistic. The words are so full of vibrant life befitting the writer and the artist that they are written for. I again am super impressed with the descriptiveness of Nora’s work. when she puts someone in danger, I was close to tears. It is so vivid.

The villain in this story is so evilly demented. That murderer is the most chillingly, cold, and calculating person ever.

As far as Ash and Lila are concerned. They are so lovable. Both are so real and funny together and comfortable with themselves. It is a rich lovely romantic story and compliments the suspense so well.

If you love romantic Suspense, This is a wonderful book to sink your teeth into. The story is full bodied. The bad guys are BAD and the good guys are GOOD. This is another 5 star reading for me. I just loved it. This book reminds me why I have read so many Nora Roberts books.

  • This Romantic Suspense by Nora Roberts reminds me how much I enjoy her suspenseful storytelling. Her characters have humor, personalities, and wonderful charm. This book is about a southern woman that has recently lost her husband in a boating accident. It is not long after the death that she begins to find out discrepancies in what his life. Missing money, secret procedures, and even a few more unusual revelations.

The story grabbed me and left me impatient to read more about the confusing and potentially dangerous life of Shelby Foxworth. After she finds out that things are not as they seemed with him she returns to Tennessee. Back to her parents and siblings. It is not long after she arrives that she finds a contractor, Griffen. He keeps showing up around town. She is drawn to him and he is intent on making her notice him.

Danger starts to rear its ugly head and people start being hurt. People start showing up with more tales of Richard, or whatever his real name is. There are several she has proof of. Then even more names crop up. There are allegations of his conduct that is even more hard to imagine. Shelby is just trying to take care of herself and her little girl. She is focused on getting rid of the debt his death left her accountable for. It is a huge financial headache. Then there are threats and more revelations force Shelby to re-evaluate her entire position in life. She has a daughter that she must keep safe. The book balances her willingness to help find out the troubling secrets and protect herself and her daughter.

Griff is a great character. Griff is truly the stuff heroes are made of. A construction worker that loves what he does. He is very talented in refurbishing and creating masterpieces in the local homes. He finds himself wanting to make a commitment too fast and he can’t help himself. Griff is a friend of Forest, Shelby’s brother and he gets caught up in the police work. Something he never expected to happen. Forest, is a wonderful character too. He is loving to his sister even though he was angry at her for years because of her actions. that interaction was quite funny. There were many cleverly funny scenes. I love when Nora adds in humor. She does it so well.

There are so many full bodied side characters and they add to the story one layer at a time until you feel a part of this town.

The writing of the southern people in town is perfection. The little sayings and the actions of beauty queen runner-up. These people could live in any southern town in several states. It is really fun to see the way the family interacts. It is really a great story. This is one of my favorite books by Nora Roberts. She knows exactly how to say things.

AudioBook Review: The Search by Nora Roberts

The SearchThe Search by Nora Roberts

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

    Overall *****
    Performance *****
    Story *****

I just finished listening to the AudioBook of the Search by Nora Roberts and this is one intense read. I loved the teeter totter of danger, happiness, love and fear. The characters Fiona Bristow and Simon Doyle are hilarious which helps during the tense scary parts.

Fiona is a dog trainer and works on the search and rescue canine team. Her dogs are brilliant and when Simon comes over with his unruly, ill mannered dog he sees that there might be hope for his truck eater. Simon is about ready to wash his hands of this overactive destructive dog. That is until Fiona helps him teach Jaws to be a smart puppy.

It was so nice to see the dogs being trained over and above the typical obedience training. Search and rescue dogs have been trained with vocal and hand commands. They also use their noses to find missing people in large wildlife areas. That portion of the book was especially interesting to me as I love to see dogs performing more than basic skills.

There was a serial killer that captured Fiona when she was younger and when she escaped from him, he stalked and killed her fiance. It has scarred her and made her more self reliant. It appears that someone is killing again in the same fashion as her would be killer. The original serial killer is in prison for life, thanks to her testimony. The new killer, this wanna be is making his way closer and closer to her. This new killer knows things about the first murderer that were never made public. It is a terrifying time for Fiona.

On the personal side of Fiona’s life, she has not really opened her heart to anyone since her fiance’s death. She does however find something very enticing about Simon.

The relationship that Fiona and Simon have made me laugh out loud on several occasions. Simon, who I love by the way, was so unwilling to have a woman or a dog in his life. So he had both woman and dog popping up in his life all through the story.

Once again I have to acknowledge the great writing on Nora Roberts’ part. She as always, gave these two so much personality and background that you really got to know them.

This is one of the best Nora Roberts books I have read. I have read a lot by her, as she is one of my most favorite authors.

Her humor and her intensity are so well balanced that you feel like you have been through the gritty and grimy events with the main characters. The dogs were so on point. The dogs almost stole the book away from Fiona and Simon.

Excellent story with a lot of intense moments and many creepy moments with a couple of serial killers.

The narration of this story was amazingly well done. The Audible AudioBook was produced by Brilliance Audio.

The intensity that Tany Eby brought to this story was unnerving. The characterization of each and every person was unique and perfectly matched to their personality.

Simon had a careless voice that showed he was a humorous man with a casual approach to life. That was his character. Fiona had the voice of a professional leader, trainer. A voice that commanded and had great strength. The original serial killer had a creepy sing song voice that made my skin crawl. The current serial killer was just a voice that implied a desire to hurt people. To watch them suffer, spot on to his personality.

The narration by Tanya Eby made this book a total 5 stars for me in each category. I had trouble sleeping after listening to this book. That is a 5 star AudioBook.

The Search is available in Kindle as well as Paperback and through Audible on Amazon

Book Review: The Last Victim by Karen Robards

The Last Victim (Dr. Charlotte Stone, #1)The Last Victim by Karen Robards
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the start of the series and what an amazing series it is. This is the first book of the series and was published in 2012.

Dr. Charlotte Stone is an expert on Serial Killers. She had escaped death from the serial killer called the Boardwalk Killer when she was a just teenager. She has been obsessed with figuring out what causes them to become serial killers ever sense. She had become a criminal pathology expert. She had been interviewing serial killers at prisons.

Charlie is working with Michael Garland, a convicted serial killer, on the day he is murdered. Just at that moment of death his spirit attaches its self to her.

Charlie tries not to get emotionally involved with the ghost, but he is a very attractive ghost, a sexy ghost. He teases her and tempts her and Charlie finds herself just too fascinated by him.

I loved this book. I loved Michael and I kept reading the follow up books not only for the suspense and Charlie’s work with Tony Bartoli from the FBI. Tony is also a handsome man, but Charlie is more interested in Michael.

I also wanted to know more about Michael, always wanting him to be innocent and come back to life. The blend of the paranormal and serial killers was a great blend. I love Karen Robard’s books. The books are fascinating.

The Last Victim by Karen Robards is available on Kindle and in Paperback on Amazon.
