3 Books in the Works, Fun time in my Head and on my Computer

I had a little book, it was the merest thought, the merest character until it blossomed into a full-fledged idea and a full fledged story.

I said I would be working on a new genre and I am happy to announce  I am well into the story and I am very excited about the characters and their interactions.

I started with one type of book in mind and took it up a notch. I am so glad I did. These characters had so much more going for them than I at first imagined.  I do love when a character shakes me up and says “Hey Listen!”

I am listening Dolcey, I am listening.  Hurry up and tell me what I need to know. Hiram needs to get his story out too.

Don’t worry Hiram, I have you started too. Hold on, hold on, you are about to be set free. Keep feeding me your backstory. I am listening.

Two strong characters with a lot of appeal coming soon.  Oh, what a time to be writing!

Recap of the Indie Author Day Event on Facebook

Let me start by saying that when I first heard of the event I was immediately interested. What a wonderful way to meet other indie authors and learn from them. As an author of an indie publication, the marketing for the book falls on my doorstep.  I can use all the help I can get.

The day started at Midnight EST and I stayed up until 5:30 so that I could support the other authors and make sure they were not alone.  That was the number one fear. That no one would show up for the hour.  It was great to actually see how many readers and writers showed up for each hour.

The questions were interesting and extremely thought provoking. So many people asked for advice on publishing and writing. As an indie author, that is a huge question. Everyone has their own writing schedule and timetable, so it was so enlightening to see how others plan out their writing day.

The Book Blurb:

About Time offers a delightful return to the world of time travel and light comedy that distinguished Jack Finney’s all-time classic Time and Again. The protagonists of these twelve stories are well-meaning but at odds with their surroundings and their lives. The time to which they escape—through time travel—doesn’t always fulfill their expectations in the way they had hoped, but sometimes, they can still find their dreams.

About the Author:

Maybe you have heard of Jack Finney as the writer of the successful book The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. He wrote beautifully descriptive science fiction in the late fifties and sixties. He wrote books about time travel that today are just as exciting and intriguing as they were when first published. Jack Finney (1911–1995) was the author of the much-loved and critically acclaimed novel Time and Again, as well as its sequel, From Time to Time. Best known for his thrillers and science fiction, a number of his books—including Invasion of the Body Snatchers—have been made into movies.

My Review:

This book has all the best stories by Jack Finney. Some are time travel and some are just lovely stories that capture your heart. Each of the stories I carry with me since I first read this book in the 1970’s. Thankfully the short story The Third Level is included in this book. I wanted to share each story with you, so this is a list of the twelve.

  • The Third Level (1950)
  • I Love Galesburg in the Springtime (1962)
  • Such Interesting Neighbors (1951)
  • The Coin Collector (1960)
  • Of Missing Persons (1955)
  • Lunch-Hour Magic (1962)
  • Where the Cluetts Are (1962)
  • The Face in the Photo (1962)
  • I’m Scared (1951)
  • Home Alone (1961)
  • Second Chance (1956)
  • Hey, Look at Me! (1962)

In the story about the Cluetts, we find a couple that built their dream house. A Victorian House that they treat as authentic in every way. It is beautifully written and made me want one too. Each story has a beauty to it. the simpler times aspect. Of Missing Persons is another favorite. You understand how people choose to stay or go. It makes you question yourself. Would I chicken out? Would I go? Trust me, I have asked myself that so many times, and each time I choose differently. It is a strong story that resonates with me. The third Level takes us into an odd encounter which once again left me wondering if I could walk away from the discovery. That is one of the reasons that Jack Finney is an absolute favorite Author of mine, he makes me ask myself the hard questions. Most of the stories have the theme of time travel. That being said, the story of the lunch hour shopping trip where the protagonist scores a pair of x-ray glasses is a clever piece that kept me laughing. I find this book to be a whirlwind of emotions. Yet, I always leave it with a feeling of longing. I want to experience several events that are mentioned in the twelve. Can’t I just have one?

There are twelve stories in this compilation all written by this one brilliant writer. Everyone owes it to themselves to read it at least once and see if the witty, charismatic writing style of Jack Finney draws you in as well. I have provided all my own children with a copy of this book and they loved it. I first read The Third Level in the late sixties I was only twelve yet I fell in love with time Travel. It might explain why when I found A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux it became my favorite romance. I can honestly recommend that everyone give it a shot.

A-Z PE Challenge Day 5 (E)

This challenge is to post a different blog daily starting with the letter  A going  all the way to  Z.

Today we are celebrating the Exciting letter E!

The Blog dejour is:

On this official 5th day we are going to find out about the website named Eye-Dancers. The blog is all about the book, which is a Young Adult Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel. That blog is centered on the book.  The name of the blog comes from the eBook and Paperback novel, Eye-Dancers. The book is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords, and Kobo

Looks good, huh?  I like the cover. Today we are going to find out more about the  man behind the story. Please meet the  author, Michael S. Fedison. He likes to be called Mike, so from this point on, we will call him Mike. The great thing about Mike is that he is doing that very difficult task of writing a sequel right now.  Continuing the story of the 4 main characters in Eye-Dancers.

The premise of the story sounds very interesting and promotes the idea of believing in possibilities, and friendship.

But let’s get to know more about the man behind the books.  As stated, his name is Mike and his desire to write, and write well comes through so strongly in his blog. He also has a fun way of expressing his worries, doubts, and concerns over starting a new writing venture.  All writers have faced those fears and concerns. When he faces them he finds a sit-com from the fifties, or a recent dream, or even the morning greeting from a former co-worker to bring the emotions to light and address them. It is a real pleasure to read his bog entries.  It is enlighten in my own journey as a writer. It is healthy to see his beautifully sculpted blog entries that also help me over my insecurities.

Take a look at his blog, I hope you can find the little jewels like I do. Here is one example:

Even then, as a junior high student, I knew that, for me, writing was akin to breathing.  I couldn’t imagine a life without it.  But most of my stories as a kid were adventures, space explorations, without much depth or emotion.  I sensed I was arriving at a crossroads.  The way I felt lying there, the thoughts swirling in my head, the ideas and motivations abounding, I wanted so much to be able to convey it all in a story, through the power of the written word.

Enjoy your special letter day today.  Mike @Eye-Dancers . Today is all about you!

For those that may have noticed my little faux paux yesterday, I apologize. I missed that I did 2( D )days. That’s what happens when you know too many amazing D blogs. I will go with that excuse and not mention my sick dog, Arrow, or my “mental health” day yesterday.midis_crazy1

This is a fun way to showcase blogs that you like and people that you want to know better.  Come join us on the 26 day challenge!

This challenge was created by gapawa.

He came up with the A-Z People Edition challenge and it is an awesome idea. If you want to join in the fun, then just join in.There is no set date or month. Just 26 days of your choosing.  Here is the link to the instructional blog you can visit

Here is a Quote from his blog explaining his motivation for this fun challenge.

” This is the people edition!  So on the first day you find someone who’s screen name starts with A and you check out their blog.  The idea is that you read through some of their posts, introduce yourself and give them some feedback.  Then, write your post of the day and publish it, describing who the person is and your experience finding and interacting with them, what you thought of their posts.  What you came away with.  I think it could be fun:)”
