    My Review:

I have come to expect severe psychological depravity when I read John Nicholl’s books. This book did not disappoint in that aspect. The evil kidnapper has taken and killed at least five other women before he took Emma. Emma is held in a darkened area without knowing day from night, hours from days and days from weeks. He insisted on servitude from her while he tortured her and taunted her. It was chilling and sickeningly fascinating. John Nicholl has a history of working as a social worker and uses the terror he faced in that career in his own stories.

While Detective Inspector Gravel searched for Emma not knowing if she was alive or dead. Reaching out to the serial Killer while looking for few clues. With trusting people listening to vague and erroneous clues, the police struggle to find this serial killer.

This book is intense. It is just so cold and creepy. I read it on Halloween and was then a little nervous about being out and about at night with the little trick or treaters. It was just that good.

    The Narration:

It is truly chilling listening to Jake Urry in his concise and gravelly voice. It takes the story to a new level when Mr. Urry narrates a thriller such as this. He does an amazing job with the voices of women, older adults, young women. His range is amazing. I am really impressed with the narration.

    My Recommendation:

If you are a fan of thrillers, this one is a great one to read and delve into the mind of a psychopath. The telling is sinfully delicious and the story is well plotted and full of misdirection. It helps that you come to know about the serial killer one revelation at a time. I am such a fan of John Nicholl and Jake Urry. When they work together it is a masterpiece.

Tainted Cure is book one of The Rememdium Series. It is an exciting intense story about what happens when scientists work on a cure for Addiction and they succeed. The medicine will change the way the brain of an addict functions. So what could go wrong with that? In a word, Everything. There are other interested parties that have their own motives. There are dangerous groups at work. There is government involvement and secrets kept that lead to a catastrophe.

The story is quite interesting and allows the reader’s mind to wander at these possibilities. The medicine is not innocuous. It is causing people to do things that they should not be doing, such as living after death. And crave human flesh. Oh yes, this book has zombies. Lots of aggressive human seeking zombies. The government has gotten involved and there is worldwide chaos.

So let me say this about the Audiobook. I loved the narration. The narrator, Rebecca Roberts, did excellent voices that kept all the characters clear in my mind. I could recognize right away who was speaking. It was great.

This is my first zombie book. I did not expect it to hold my interest as it did. It was really a good story. Ashley Fontainne made it easy to understand what was going on. Not always the case with scientific jargon and theme. Even with all the exploding heads and gray matter oozing, I enjoyed it. So I might have been a little afraid of the Dystopian genre before, but I admit that now I am game to try it again.

    My Recommendation:

If you have never tried Dystopian, then this would be an excellent book to begin with. The characters are realistic and you come to know them very well. You see the good and the bad of them. This is an amazing story that will make you question which is worse, the addiction or the cure.

    My Review:

The Rememdium series started off with Tainted Cure, the story of Dr. Everett Berning’s secret project that seemed to be the cure for addiction. A secret project that went terribly wrong when it fell into the wrong hands. Not adding any spoilers but wanting to introduce the first book before reviewing Book 2. Tainted Reality, book 2 picks up exactly where Tainted Cure drops off. You are back into the tension and the ugliness of the laboratory that has caused such damage and worse yet, zombies. Soldiers are seeking out the contaminated people and ridding society of the infected people that they find.

We also are following The police Chief, Regina Parker. Regina has a small group of survivors hiding, making friends with each other, and watching the carnage that is happening right outside the local WalMart. The infiltrating zombies are certainly keeping them all on their toes.

Ashley Fontainne has brought me into a genre that I had never suspected I could love. But these books are amazing. The characters are very well crafted and have such great personalities. When special fiercely strong people are wounded and facing death, I cried. These strong, wonderful people are so close to me after two books.

I am listening to the audiobook and it is wonderful to hear Rebecca Roberts as the narrator. As she has a wide variety of voices that she shares throughout the book. You learn to recognize each character by their voice.

    My Recommendation:

I would recommend that you read book one before touching this book. I also recommend that you take the time to read Tainted Cure and Tainted Reality. Excellent reads that make you think about what you would do in a similar situation and how much damage can medicine can do when in the wrong hands. I didn’t want to include anything that would spoil book one if you haven’t read it. This is a series that both is entertaining and emotional.

    The Book Blurb:

    Melington has changed.

There is an evil lurking in the darkness, under the beds and behind closet doors. It seeks vengeance and retribution and will not be denied.

No one knows this more than Alan Carter. Returning to his hometown after a twenty-year absence, he is resolute in uncovering the truth behind his sister’s abduction and the strange disappearance of children. Joined by his childhood friend, Alan finds himself thrown into the middle of a conspiracy led by the town Council as it desperately tries to hide its secrets from the world.

No child is safe in Melington, and Alan Carter needs to stop the curse that has haunted his hometown for generations. But as Alan’s brushes with death become more frequent, he finds himself running out of luck.

    My Review:

Children to the Slaughter was a creepy and interesting audiobook. With children leaving town on more than natural occasions the town has always had a history of a quick turnover in families.

When Alan Carter comes back to Melington, he keeps his cards close to his vest as he tries to figure out exactly what is going on here. His own little sister disappeared when she was little. The only witness was Alan. He never forgot the hand that pulled her down into the sandbox. His family left the town directly after her disappearance. After twenty years he returns.

Bits and pieces wiggle and meld themselves into a very intricate plot. Debra the best friend of Alan from when they were both children is surprised to see him return. She has no clue he has more reasons than just to work. The fear that comes through in the scenes with Alan and Debra are chilling. The lack of the bigger picture keeps many of the people in the town in the dark. No one knows who is in on the disappearances and who isn’t.

Alan’s conspiracy theory hits Debra hard and she turns away from him. There are too many strange occurrences of missing children for decades.

The story is riveting. The narration is eerily wonderful. This is not my first book narrated by Jack Urry and I can admit, I am a fan. His voice lends itself to this type of genre in a way that is hard to define unless you have heard it. The voices that Jake Urry presents bring a very emotional response to the tension-filled words that A.I. Nasser writes.

    My Recommendation:

If you love a good horror story, with hands in the dark, closet doorknobs turning in the night, and missing children, you are going to love this book. I imagine reading it would give as many chills, but if you want the full effect, get the Audiobook. It is completely chilling. On the Audiobook you are given a sneak peak into the next book in the series. It is a nice bonus. It is going to be good. I hope it is narrated by Jack Urry as well. He is perfection for this story type.
